I always love to read those "man-on-the-street" columns in my local newspaper. It seems that frivolous questions rather than weighty ones inspire far livelier and intriguing responses. In the same spirit, I collar friends, relatives, and total strangers to ask them inconsequential questions on culinary matters.

No one doesn't have strong feelings about chocolate. (Just look at those zillions of chocolate web sites!) And everyone has their own idea of what one dish represents absolute chocolate sublimity.

Q:What is your favorite chocolate-intense dish?

Robert:Mudslides. Definitely. You've never had a Mudslide? They're shaped like a cookie but they taste more like a brownie. They are absolutely incredible. I gotta find one for you......it'll change your life. Narsai David (a local food figure) makes them. Actually, I don't know if he's still making them. That's a depressing thought. I haven't seen any around for awhile.

Kathleen: Chocolate gives me headaches. That doesn't stop me from eating it. I just hate myself afterwards. My favorite chocolate dessert is chocolate mousse; I like those creamy kind of things. The last time I had chocolate mousse was Friday night at this great restaurant in San Francisco called Eos.....do you know it?
