I always love to read those "man-on-the-street" columns in my local newspaper. It seems that frivolous questions rather than weighty ones inspire far livelier and intriguing responses. In the same spirit, I collar friends, relatives, and total strangers to ask them inconsequential questions on culinary matters.

Q: What and when do you eat in the car?

Victor: I drive around all day, and all day I'm eating all kinds of fruit - bananas, pears, apples. And sunflower seeds- I'm addicted to them....it must be the salt.

Carmen: I don't eat in the car. Probably the last thing I ate in the car was a Snickers .....and that was maybe two years ago. The only time we really eat in the car is when we're going to the mountains, and I have sandwiches for everyone.

Suzie: I don't eat that much in the car except for snack-y things like candy or cookies sometimes. I don't eat that much real food in the car...partly, I don't want it to get too dirty - it's a new car. Oh, if I take the girls to one of their games and we haven't eaten, we might stop and get some fast food and eat it on the way.
